A 24-year-old Virginia man is charged with murder after allegedly opening fire inside a Woodbridge home and killing three members of a family β a recently married couple and the wife's 19-year-old daughter β and their roommate.
David Nathaniel Maine, of Woodbridge, also lived with the victims. He opened fire Monday after an altercation inside the home he shared with the victims in the 5200 block of Mansfield Court, Prince William County police said.
Maine then called 911 about 4:30 p.m. to report that someone had shot into the residence, but there's no evidence that someone else was firing, police said.

Officers responded and found a door open. When they went inside for a welfare check, they discovered four people dead in different areas of the home, NBC Washington reported.
The victims were identified as family members Miguel Duran Flores, 44; Kelly Victoria Sotelo, 42, and Karrie Ayline Sotelo, 19, and a basement tenant, Richard Julio Jesus Revollar Corrales, 36.
Miguel Flores and Kelly Sotelo had recently married. Karrie Sotelo was Kelly's daughter, Prince William Police Chief Peter Newsham said.

"It was heartbreaking," said Enrique Galarza, who worked with Flores. "He's a family man, a really hardworking guy. He lived for his family."

Detectives Search for Motive in Slaying of Woodbridge Family, Roommate
Forensic work continued Tuesday in and around the house, as detectives searched for any signs of a motive to try to learn why a man would shoot and kill four people he knew and lived with.
Three of the victims were shot, and the cause of death for the fourth victim has not yet been determined. Newsham said the working theory is that Karrie was killed first. A gun was recovered at the scene, police said.
Police think Maine's 911 call was meant to throw police off.
He was stopped by officers near the home shortly after the shooting. Officers were seen questioning him on Monday afternoon.
"The only word that I can use to describe it is senseless," Newsham said. "Absolutely senseless that anyone would take four lives the way that they did."
A child also lived in the home but wasn't there during the attack, Newsham said.
Maine is being held without bond. Heβs charged with four counts of murder and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. He doesn't have a criminal history that suggested the potential for such violence, Newsham said.
βMy hope is that he never, ever sees the light of day again,β Newsham said.
Dozens of neighbors gathered around the home to pay respects for their four neighbors who were gunned down in what police are calling an apparent domestic situation.
"I'm really shocked because this is a pretty safe neighborhood, and things like this don't really happen here," said one neighbor.
